Looking ahead to 2050, the evolution and outlook for the EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) department will be deeply linked to a company's sustainability strategy, requiring a shift from traditional "risk management" to "value creation." As international agendas such as global decarbonization, biodiversity conservation, and respect for human rights progress, EHS departments will be positioned as a core function in corporate management.

First, on the environmental front, initiatives toward carbon neutrality will accelerate. EHS departments will not only reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions, but will also lead Scope 3 initiatives throughout the supply chain and promote renewable energy utilization and circular business models. Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 will require more than simply managing numerical targets; it will also require the introduction of innovative technologies and cross-industry collaboration.

Second, in the field of occupational safety and health, preventative management utilizing AI and IoT will become the norm. Real-time monitoring and risk prediction using digital twins will help build a next-generation safety culture that aims for zero workplace accidents. Furthermore, in response to health risks associated with pandemics and climate change, the EHS department will promote comprehensive health management, including supporting employees in balancing their physical and mental health.

Third, from the perspective of social responsibility and governance, the EHS department will be responsible for human rights due diligence and transparent information disclosure. As investors and consumers increasingly evaluate companies' EHS responses toward 2050, the EHS department will establish itself as a strategic department that enhances corporate value.

Overall, the evolution of the EHS department with an eye toward 2050 will drive the realization of sustainability that integrates the environment, society, and economy. Drawing up an EHS strategy not only as a means of risk reduction but also as a source of competitive advantage will play a crucial role in future corporate growth.
