Green Transformation (GX) is an initiative that aims to shift toward a sustainable society and economy by promoting climate change countermeasures and a circular economy. EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) plays a foundational and critical role in achieving this. Integrating an EHS perspective is essential for GX to permeate throughout all business activities, rather than remaining a mere environmental measure.

First, in the relationship between GX and Environment, companies are required to implement measures such as introducing renewable energy, updating energy-saving equipment, and reducing waste. These initiatives are directly linked to EHS environmental management, and as GX progresses, the effectiveness of environmental load reduction increases. Furthermore, to achieve carbon neutrality, accurate measurement and disclosure of greenhouse gas emissions are indispensable, making it crucial to enhance the environmental data management handled by the EHS department.

Next, in relation to Health, the new industrial structures and work styles resulting from GX also change the health risks for workers. For example, handling chemical substances in the renewable energy and new material development sectors requires strict EHS management to prevent new health hazards. Moreover, promoting health management that can flexibly adapt to changes in the work environment amid the industrial transformation driven by GX leads to an increase in corporate value.

From a Safety perspective, it is essential to address new risks that come with the introduction of GX-related technologies. While hydrogen energy and battery technologies hold great promise, they also pose risks such as explosions and fires. Therefore, it is necessary to establish mechanisms to prevent industrial accidents while promoting GX by thoroughly implementing safety education and risk assessments.

Furthermore, strengthening the EHS system in line with international regulations and standards (such as the EU Taxonomy and ISSB standards) is directly linked to a company's competitiveness in promoting GX. Integrating EHS and GX is indispensable not only for regulatory compliance but also for gaining the trust of investors and stakeholders.

Overall, Green Transformation and EHS have a mutually complementary relationship, and the success of GX is supported by the proper practice of EHS. By prioritizing not only environmental load reduction but also the health and safety of workers when promoting GX, companies can achieve sustainable growth and gain social trust simultaneously.
